Fixing Your Disposal

One of the Easiest and most common problems to fix is your disposer. Nine times out of ten, following these directions will fix your disposal and save you $85.00 + in plumber fees.

Here Are the tools required. You can pick up a disposal wrench for $7.00 at Home Depot, or you can just use a 1/4" allen wrench.

This is the underside of the disposer. If the switch that turns the disposer on and off doesn't work at all, reset the disposer by pressing the red button on the bottom of the disposer. Don't turn the switch on quite yet. There is still one more thing to do.

Insert your disposer wrench in the center of the disposer and spin it back and forth 180 degrees. This loosens up any food particles that are clogging the disposer. You'll be able to feel what is in your disposer by simply doing this step. If it sounds like rocks are in the disposal and the crunching sound persists after several twists of the wrench, stop and buy a new disposal or call a plumber. Otherwise turn on the water and disposal to flush any particals you released with your wrenching down the pipe. You should now be in business.
